That topic would be restricted to "interesting photos of pre-existing graffiti done by someone else not known to the photographer." I don't want to get a) DU, b) the photo group, or c) the contest's host to get in trouble for encouraging criminal acts of vandalism!

I don't have to go commit the act?

Seriously, I do not know if we have a rule about submitting a photo we have shown before in the photo group. I have a few graffiti shots I have shown and may want to pick one of them. If it's a blind submission contest that could be a bit dicey - and a host decision would be good.
For the future, this is something we may want to discuss amongst ourselves.

I think that's how I remember the rules. Just showing it to the group is okay.

With the advent of the blind submission this is a point that could be argued, and that's what I was referring to.
Unless there is a new directive from the host, I'll go with that old standing rule.

I may also not use one of my old shots, may go get out the spray cans and go taggin'...

the rule is that you can submit previous entries as long as they are not previous winners.

My memory and $4 will get you a coffee at Starbucks....

...unless the month's host allows everyone to resubmit something used before. (Hmmm...that sounds like an interesting contest topic! "Second chance"...submit a photo you've already entered in a prior contest, but that didn't win it.)

Also, I've never heard of any rule about not having posted a photo before entering it, although, if you have posted it too soon beforehand (say, in the previous week or two), it might make a blind-submission procedure pretty meaningless. OTOH, I should certainly hope there isn't a "never seen before" rule, because I've had Cannon Beach in the Raven Falls home-page slideshow for over a year now!

right! On the blind submissions since that is up to the host to do I would say let the host decide if recognizing a previous non-contest posted photo would be allowed or not.

I haven't been able to decide on one of the suggestions to vote for yet though would go with graffiti if it included graffiti approved of by the building owners. Not much graffiti in this area and even less that is safe to get to in this weather.

If I'm gonna take a photo of graffiti that means I'm gonna have to make some graffiti . Besides, maybe I have a ton of artistic talent that just hasn't been discovered yet, and this will be my outlet.

you can usually find some graffiti. Try under bridges or train trestles; on the back on parking signs in your one-horse town, at the base of the town water tower, behind a farmer's barn. I've seen graffiti in all these places, all over the country. I will note it's not usually interesting or provocative, like Banksy's art. It's usually just tagging. But then, all the more challenge to you the photographer to bring in to true artistic light.

It has to be more than just photographing someone else's tagging. Most of it is just trashy vandalism. Making the photo look artist will be tough.

We shall see. It's tied now.
