The Hercules' Club

Last edited Sun Feb 19, 2012, 09:48 PM - Edit history (2)

A tree (and shrub). The bark of which is a bit warty and spiny in the older trees. The younger trees are more thorny. Sometimes called the Prickly Ash or Toothache tree. Chewing the leaves will cause a numbing effect.

Lower part of the tree trunk looks like this.

This particular tree was about 25 feet tall.

I've been out doing the Great Backyard Bird Count and came across this tree while following a small stream behind my house.

It is located on an incline going down to the stream. The path is still wet and slick from the rains. I was somewhat afraid of slipping and falling into the tree. lol

Had to have photos have it. Gonna check on it again come spring.

Not a climber for sure! Nice pics though.

Like to see it again in summer when the leaves are out.

I'll go back in the spring and summer to see what the tree looks like then.

Maybe nibble on a leaf or two. (or not)
