I took a walk on the First Creek trail at Red Rock Canyon on Sunday. The rain stopped on Saturday, after 3-4 days of steady drizzle that gave us 1.34" total rainfall (a full 1/3 of our average annual rainfall). The clouds were so beautiful I just had to go out and get some pictures.

(10,751 posts)...it's in Nevada. Red Rock Canyon is about a 30-minute drive from my home in Las Vegas. Amazing you can get to such natural beauty at such close proximity to our metropolis in the desert!

(10,751 posts)...now you know, if you ever get to Las Vegas, don't miss out on Red Rock Canyon which is very close by. Although if you come here in the summer, well let's just say it gets very hot during the day!

(3,057 posts)Valley of Fire! I'm about 50 miles north of the city in the Moapa Valley...people need to get out of the city for a while when they visit. We have so much more than the tables! I've lived pretty much all over the country, and you can't beat spring in the desert.

(10,751 posts)...it was nice to see the creek running nicely, thanks to the recent rainfall.
The blue skies may be a bit exaggerated due to the polar filter I had on the lens.

(38,327 posts)They are beautiful places, like the seashore, that make all the problems and irritations of daily life seem very small.
Even the plainest, sparsest, driest deserts are places of wonder.
I pity people who can only see "wasteland" in deserts, people who can only see the land as something to "develop" into farmland, mines, cities, golf courses, or solar power plants.
