Ruby-throated Hummingbirds. I've several living around my house. I usually use color for hummingbirds.

(90,778 posts)You'd enjoy watching the hummingbird wars then. That's what I call the aerial battles between competing hummingbirds for control of the food trap-line. They can be quite vicious.
Skittles
(153,170 posts)we had one certified bully who would try to take control of the four trees with feeders, and they were a fair distance apart!!!

(31,397 posts)which is what I've also called them for years. I do think Star Wars maneuvers must
have been inspired by watching hummers battle for dominance of the food source.

(90,778 posts)Watching me as much as I'm watching it. When the smaller feeders are empty they will come to the window and hover. Smart birds.
I also have a titmouse that lets me know when the seed feeder is empty. It will tap on the window with its beak.
They call. I run to do their bidding. They have me trained.

(31,397 posts)We have really big windows that look out to our back deck. Occasionally a hummer flies too hard
into one of the windows. The other day I looked out and saw a poor little guy motionless on the
lid of the firewood storage box. But...he was breathing. In less than a minute, he popped up and then
flew away. When he started to fly away, I'd swear he looked like he was flying 'drunk'!

(90,778 posts)I keep hoping to catch one in torpor and hanging upside down. I check the trees every so often for it. No luck yet.
