I never saw a Purple Cow,
I never hope to see one;
But I can tell you, anyhow,
I'd rather see than be one.
mnhtnbb
(31,390 posts)Seriously. Well, it was really blue...but I could have turned it purple!
Celebration
(15,812 posts)But would have required a purple mask of some sort.
Editing to add: Wish I had gotten that shot of a purple people eater!! Barely missed it.

(31,390 posts)eh, nothing special. Second morning. Unbelievable.
First time I entered a photo on one of these contests was one I took
at Ollantaytambo. It was an amazing trip. Peru is really magical.

(60,074 posts)back into photography. I spent years building kites, I even designed a celtic harp for some friends. I bought a Samsung Maxima 35mm camera to carry around on my mail route. It got the juices flowing again. Later I bought a Canon S110, 2.1 mp. The rest is a sordid history of gear acquisition syndrome.
Canon S110 My wife still uses this one.
The S50 Can be used to crack walnuts. It could shoot RAW, but I never liked how dark they were.
G10. This was one hell of a camera. It needs a good sensor cleaning. I might convert it to IR
Now I have the Olympus EPL-1. It's been such a good camera, I haven't been able to justify moving up to a newer camera. The kit lens was very slow focusing, so it says in the drawer.
Next could be a Panasonic G6 or G5, though I will probably go with the Olympus EPL-5 The G6 has focus peaking, so that might be the best camera for these old eyes.

(31,390 posts)I have only been using a digital camera for 3 years--Canon PowerShot A2100 IS. Thinking about moving up to Canon G12--but hesitant
to spend the money. I can't decide if I'm just having some fun...or want to get more serious.
alfredo
(60,074 posts)If you want to buy the Canon G series, check out the G15, or wait to see how the new G16 is received. DPreview likes it.
If you are looking for something pocketable, look for something like the Sony RX100, Ricoh GRIV, Canon S110, Lumix LX7.
The new Pentax MX-1 is a real beauty and has garnered praise from reviewers. Pentax is now owned by Ricoh. Both make very good glass. It has a bright lens, making indoor photography much easier.

Learning a new camera is a lot of fun. It builds new connections in your brain.

Celebration
(15,812 posts)I don't see them nearly as often as the great blues, so they are slightly more novel around here. I love to try to creep up on them. My old Girl Scout days are showing I guess.
The first time I photographed one I had no idea what it was and had to ask someone here. I thought it was a weird duck in a tree. Not much of a bird person here, but I have learned a few things.
Solly Mack
(90,767 posts)They're all over here during the summer and year round down New Orleans way.
I got my bird learn on because of this group.

to me. My gay friend and his husband adopted this girl and she has had a rough life. They are just overjoyed to have her and give her the love she needs. She looks sad in this pic...but overall she had so much fun at Mardi Gras - geez - what kid wouldn't - the joy of it all - the colors, the music, the beautiful floats - people throwing beads and candy.

(18,633 posts)Hahahaha ...I'm not sure the Optometry Assn recommends that high a dose of purple flower exposure.
I knew there'd be some flowers entered, but I made a rare attempt at a nature pic, then I beat the hell out it trying to make it look good. I think I might have killed it:
I realized I was out of my league and went back to something I know a little about. LOL

(22,380 posts)I would be too intimidated to add an entry. Some of these defy description they are so beautiful, at least I don't have good words....
This will be a real fight. Can't wait!
handmade34
(22,756 posts)is the variety (and interpretation) of purple... from blues to reds... I am so bad at identifying color and I thought mine was too blue but I am appreciating the variations... especially yours which has the two shades!
JohnnyRingo
(18,633 posts)...is that I always wonder how you find such intriguing subjects. You have an amazing eye for beauty in unusual settings, and the purple porch is another great one.
I'm curious what a long shot of that house would reveal. I don't know if that's your own home, but the person who lives there certainly celebrates the far reaches of the spectrum.
Mira
(22,380 posts)I'm lots better now, and back on track knowing what is and is not important. Thank you for your words.
The Porch is in Key West. I photographed it on a walk there last week. In Key West the living is so expensive, only you as a New Yorker can grasp it. By the time you pay your rent, old decrepit purple furniture has to suffice.
I'll go back and see if I have a shot with a larger view - I do remember cropping a bit.
EDIT:
nope, not much more, just more of the bicycle.
But this photo was lurking nearby so I uploaded it for you because it may make you smile.

(18,633 posts)As I said... interesting places.

(22,756 posts)The difference between violet and purple is that violet appears in the visible light spectrum, or rainbow, whereas purple is simply a mix of red and blue. Violet has the highest vibration in the visible spectrum...Both contain the energy and strength of red with the spirituality and integrity of blue. This is the union of body and soul creating a balance between our physical and our spiritual energies...
Violet encourages creative pursuits and seeks inspiration and originality through its creative endeavors. It likes to be unique, individual and independent, not one of the crowd. Artists, musicians, writers, poets and psychics are all inspired by violet and its magic and mystery.
Violet is the color of the humanitarian, using its better judgment to do good for others. Combining wisdom and power with sensitivity and humility, violet can achieve a lot for those less fortunate...
The color purple is specifically associated with royalty and the nobility, creating an impression of luxury, wealth and extravagance...
Purple has power...Too much of the color purple can promote or aggravate depression in some...

(18,633 posts)As a typical guy, I have like six words for all the colors of the rainbow. I chose "Lilac" because others already used purple and lavender, and I wanted an original title. I almost named it "Metallic Lacquer Lilac Dream", but I'm not sure anyone can say that aloud without tieing their tongue in a knot.
Now I wonder what color my image of that custom lowrider Ford really is, and ultimately what it says about me. I hope it doesn't trigger depression in anyone. LOL
