Favorite in being fascinated is the first one, in beauty of photography the last. It must be eery to be in those history laden halls.

always wanted to visit Alcatraz.

Your first shot emphasizes the feeling of lonliness and isolation.

The part of Alcatraz Island that was the federal prison is quite small. There's just a few cell blocks. The exercise yard is smaller than a basketball court. Most of the prisoners did all their time in that space without ever going outside that building.

The reason they shut it down was economics. All of the fresh wate and sewage had to be transported by boat. It simply got too expensive to maintain it.

A nice reminder for me of my visit to Alcatraz several years ago. I believe it might be one of my favorite places in San Francisco! I highly recommend it. I wish I there had been digital photography then. I need to go back.
