Bridge implosion

about an hour from austin they are replacing an old bridge with a modern one. they decided to implode the old bridge rather than disassemble it

this is the bridge just before the explosives went off

they trigger the explosives. it took less than 1 second for teh explosives to run in sequence the length of the bridge. i was lucky to get a shot with teh last couple of charges going off at far right

they said they were going to reopen the new bridge 5 minutes after the explosion. i had to wait over an hour for them to reopen it. in addition to the loss of cell phone service etc their was an unexploded charge on the bridge that had to be removed

Not sure I agree with dumping it in the water. Are they going to clean it up, or leave it for the fishies?

I remember watching this clip in the library, although I don't recall what sort of device allowed me to watch moving film at the time. I watched it over and over to try to figure out the physics behind the motion...

The old newsreels sound so corny but compared to what we tolerate today from our news outlets, maybe this style wouldn't be so bad.

Well, other than the comedy shows like Stewart and Colbert.
