(22,380 posts)a long time ago, when I stood there with my film camera carefully composing shots of the ground in all its colors to show to folks that abstract art is all around us.
I understand the sentiment.
thanks for liking the photos!!!

(22,380 posts)this area is so completely abandoned and wild. 200 acres of supposedly inaccessible and fenced in private property of the city. I can't ask anyone. But the more I look at the photos the more I realize we have a diamond in the rough there that folks don't know about. There isn't any trash. NONE.

(22,380 posts)There is a local TV station that keeps saying: send me your photos of the city, and you'll get credit when we show them.
Well, I don't care about the credit.
I care about folks knowing about this hidden beauty in the Southern center of our town. 200 acres of wilderness that is on roads that are not public.
Or do I????
I liked not seeing any trash, any sign of human encroachment. Except the kudzu laden fences and the threatening razor wire.

(14,040 posts)but the worst thing about telegraphing their location is taggers and kids finding out about them and destroying them further (or having seen the evidence of their already knowing about it). So publicizing these places is a double-edged sword. That said, eventually, people will learn about this place and (some) humans will do their best to dirty the place up.
Beautiful photos btw.

(90,773 posts)that sharing could lead to. Not everyone will appreciate the uncluttered beauty and keep it that way.
You should share your photos with the local station. Maybe not of the quarry...but you have some great photos of your city.
an interesting article on the quarry, if anyone is interested in reading it.
You've probably already read it Mira.
The reason I was looking it up was because
I was curious how or why there would be
jellyfish in the water there.
Your pictures of it are beautiful. I hope they don't make it into a recreational area.
People always seem to ruin or trash places.

(22,380 posts)than in my local paper. Thank you for posting this, to me that's so worthwhile because by now of course I'm a bit invested in it.
If they would turn it into what they say they want to do it could become a jewel of a tourist attraction, bring life to the South Side of town, create revenue, and bring the now fenced and barbed wired beauty out in the open.
But to be finished in 20 years is ridiculous.
I'll be watching!
Thanks again for the article.

(4,588 posts)I never knew such a creature existed. Amazing how a standalone body of water like this gets populated by all kinds of fish. Good job birds! Thanks for the link and the additional photos.

I grew up near a lime quarry and we'd go swimming there EVERY day. Oh what fun we had!
