(13,923 posts)Riding up the Taconic State Pky and reaching one of the many peaks and looking west it was like waves of rolling fire. Absolutely amazing and me without my camera...drat..
Not my pic but you catch my drift..

(9,849 posts)I am told that "the" place in CA for autumn color is in the northern Sierras. I am at the southern end of gold country. The "Gold Chain Highway" ends nearby. I took many slides of Vermont and New Hampshire foliage back in the day. Must be time to scan them!
Whether it's one leaf or millions of them, autumn was a great time. I thank my companions for their patience as I set up photos and wandered all over for the perfect angle.
There's always a story behind the photo. A great book to read is Examples: The Making of 40 Photographs, by Ansel Adams. Lots of surprises, like the time he left his light meter in the car, or the roll of film that was stepped on.
Spoiler alert: the best photo on the roll was the one that was undamaged!
