The passing of an icon. Pete Seeger dead at 94.
I can't even begin to express how I feel. Yes, he was old. Yes he was almost 30 years older than me. But, he was someone who was always there, and stayed true to his beliefs for as long as I can remember. I remember back in the late 60's when I was a student at Ohio State he came to do a concert. The originally booked a room in the student union, then doubled the size of the room because they had sold so many tickets. Then moved it to an even larger room, and on and on. By the time of the concert the largest auditorium on campus was totally sold out and they were trying to get a second show booked.
We sang his songs as we marched for Civil Rights and we sang them when we demonstrated for women's rights, and worker's rights. We sang them at Occupy. It's hard to believe that he's gone. I guess God had better watch out. If there is any unjustice anywhere in Heaven, Pete and his banjo will be there, singing and rallying the angels to correct it.
Rest well, Mr. Seeger. You have earned it.
