The Eagles celebrate their legacy with new members in the first of three Forum shows

It’s been 43 years since the Eagles first headlined the Forum, Don Henley announced to the house early in the first of three shows at the Inglewood arena that’s long been this legendary L.A. rock band’s hometown home. “Forty-three years, two months and one day to be exact,” he continued. “And tonight will be our 16th show.”

The band — now expanded to replace the deceased Glenn Frey’s place on stage with country singer-songwriter Vince Gill and Deacon Frey, Glenn’s son — did across 26 songs and two-and-a-half hours on Wednesday. For most of the full house at the Forum this was likely their first time seeing the new lineup, which had only played once before in Southern California, at Dodger Stadium set at the Classic West festival in July 2017.

After the whole band opened the show as it often has over the years by singing five-part harmonies on “Seven Bridges Road,” the new guys made an immediate impression, with Deacon Frey singing his dad’s part on “Take It Easy,” and after Henley’s performance of “One of These Nights” from his spot at the drums, Gill taking on the Frey vocals for “Take It To The Limit” and “Tequila Sunrise.”

Deacon Frey’s voice is remarkably similar to his old man’s on songs such as “Peaceful Easy Feeling” and “Already Gone.” And while Gill’s tenor isn’t an exact replica, it’s a terrific voice in which to hear songs like “New Kid In Town” or “Lyin’ Eyes,” not to mention the superb guitar he plays.

"You can check out, but you can never leave. Such a lovely place" this is the song on the top of my Eagles playlist.

I know the album sold well, but has always gotten mixed critical reviews. I think it wholly stands the test of time, and has some of my favorite Eagles songs on it, especially the transcendent "Wasted Time".

The lyrics in "Hotel California" are genius.

One of the most amazing videos of a live concert is their “Hell Freezes Over” — beautifully filmed and amazing sound.

The one song that rarely comes up from their hits though, is Witchy Woman.

I think that song is just great.

The Singer of that song ... and I believe the main writer ... was Randy Meissner.

Who also, among a few other tracks, sung the STELLAR 'Try and Love Again' on Hotel California.
