Hosted by Howard Cosell and George Carlin (there were still sorting out that hosting thing).
I knew Carlin was the first host, didn't realize Billy was the first musical guest.

Janis Ian was on too, she did "At Seventeen". IIRC, Billy was the first guest around 12:10 and then Janis Ian did the second set about 12:45.
He was such fun with that big old B3 in the middle of the stage flopping that hair (or wig if you're willing to let your childhood dreams be smashed by that heretical claim !!!)
