THE VIPERS SKIFFLE GROUP Pick A Bale Of Cotton

This is the somewhat faster version of the old Leadbelly number. Used these days for boppin' at Rockabilly / Rock Roll dances here in the UK and Europe.

At the risk of sounding insular I spent most of my life thinking that the song referred to the UK because we've got both Cumberland and Middlesborough here. That was until when I was over your side 2002 and wandered off down to Monticello KY to visit a friend's father and we went swimming in Lake Cumberland - once just a stream now a lake.

Love how the UK taught us to appreciate US music.
