When Gram came on board with The Byrds and they made”Sweetheart of the Rodeo” The Nashville establishment just hated it. Not real country, of maybe the fact that it was produced in Los Angeles instead of Nashville was the real reason.
Anyway, Gram and McGuinn personally met with Ralph Emery, who had a very popular late night clear channel C and W show and tried to get him to play some of the tunes on it. He was less than cordial.
So Gram and McGuinn co wrote “Drug Store Truck Driving Man” for him. It was on The Byrds “Dr. Byrds and Mr. Hyde” LP. Gram was no longer with The Byrds but a closing line in the song has McGuinn saying, “This one’s for you , Ralph.
And what comes out of Nashville now is pop with steel guitars. And many of the male stars will give Gram and The Byrds Credit as greatly influencing them.
And Gram’s Nudie is in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

but I'm well aware. Big fan.

You ever see Grand Theft Parsons? Great Flick! If you ain't seen it, check it out. It's based on the true story of Gram's road manager/friend stealing his corpse and taking it to Joshua Tree to be burned in accordance to Gram's wishes. Great Flick!

Seriously funny and great movie. Last scene, very last scene has the actual road manager being led up the steps of the police station in cuffs. My brother Shred, please let me know what you thought after you've checked it out. Would love to know what a fellow Parsons fan thinks.

P.S. Named my Mini Cooper S Bernice.... Ya gotta watch the movie....

The real star of that song is that crazy fuzzed out pedal steel solo. And yeah, the Nudie suits are cool.

The promo poster listed their names individually.

Chris Hillman
Al Perkins
Bernie Leadon
Herb Pederson
Jerry Scheff

Except for one or two of Herb's songs it was the Burrito Brothers repertoire. They were freakin' incredible! They had all been on a recording session with David Mansfield for some kind of gospel album and booked this one gig before heading back to California. They were mostly playing acoustic instruments. I guess you could call it BurritoGrass.
