BTW - Great handle for a music head. (Heh)
Sound engineer? Or recording/playback equipment maintainer?
Or neither and really it's none of my damn business...
dgauss
(882 posts)played bass and guitar and had a four track tape machine way back. A little more since then but basically amateur.
As far as dgauss, I remember as a kid looking at old CRT monitors, the old tube stuff and seeing things gradually shift and get fuzzy. TVs and computer monitors. But I remember on some tv set or monitor a button that you could push that was labeled "degauss" You'd push it and some magnetic degaussing process would take place and the image on those old CRT monitors would be clear again. Seemed like some kind of hopeful metaphor, things get out or whack and then become clear again, you just have to degauss now and then. Also, the letters sort of aligned with my own name.
...So, story of the handle.

(13,191 posts)and at one of my assignments, we had big Honeywell reel to reel data recorders that used 1 inch tape at up to 240 IPS (although 30 or 60 IPS was a more common speed) and we had to periodically degauss the heads
I never worked on TVs although I remember my dad using what looked like a steering wheel with an electric cord to degauss our old tv.
Cheers!
