I grew up in the 60's..racial hatred is not a new concept..in fact, many of those iconic signatures gracing the Declaration of Independence were of southern "gentlemen" intent on "keeping" their slaves...and of course there's Manifest Destiny.. white men convinced they had G-d in their pockets, did a massive sea-to-shining sea land-grab, killing, burning, and looting if it was "necessary".. subjugating Native Americans, Blacks, and Mexicans..and still racial hatred is a thing...
