Jerry was always known as the laid-back guy, while Gris (like many bluegrass artists) was kind of a perfectionist. But they were great together.

I saw them live at the Warfield in San Francisco once, and it was one of the best shows I ever saw.

That must have been awesome! I saw the JGB a few times, and the David Grisman Quintet several times, but never got to see the two men together. Grisman is so intense when he’s on a roll. His crazy-eyed stare could burn a hole right through your soul, lol! Those Quintet shows were some of the best performances I’ve ever had the privilege to witness.

Although, of course, Dawg Music was much more than just bluegrass. Mixing bluegrass and jazz eventually became a thing (see Bela Fleck for a good example), but Dave was ahead of that curve. Just a tremendous artist. I think he reinvigorated Jerry in a lot of ways.
