- but I will always be proud of how much I loved Roy back then.
I went to see him whenever he was in the area (and I could scrounge the $).
Stuebenville, Pittsburgh and Wheeling., I was in the hall
40 some years later now and still no one remotely like him has come around

She knew I was a huge and fan and was really excited to see him. Unfortunately he seemed depressed and run down, she was really disappointed.
My brother lives in Philly and he saw him play in a bar in Delaware just before his suicide.
He tells me that Roy just played Country Gospel most of the night.
He had the same impression my wife did, Roy seemed depressed.
Which makes sense I guess. At that time he was semi-retired, didn't go out on tour, just did some gigs in Maryland and Delaware close to his home
But oh man, in the late 70s he was a force to reckon with. Not showy - didn't jump around or anything but would play forever and seemed to be having a great time.
