Richard Thompson Electric Trio and guest
That's what our tickets said. We were expecting to see one of the best guitarist/songwriters in the western world perform an amazing set at the Belly Up Tavern this evening.
That's what we were expecting, anyway.
What actually happened was nearly three not-one-potty-break-lest-you-miss-something hours of mind-blowing, jaw-dropping virtuosity, wit and showmanship. This band put on one of the best rocking sets I have ever seen in my life.
If you have plans, cancel them, even if you have never heard of Richard Thompson. Do. Not. Miss. This. Show.

(3,127 posts)I've seen him with an electric quartet and with an acoustic duo (Danny Thompson on bass). He's going to be playing The Wilma in Missoula in a few days but I'll be out of town.

He's playing tonight at Revolution Hall in Portland OR, electric trio. I am stuck in Eugene/Springfield in the rain.

(2,431 posts)The guest was RT solo acoustic. He had a few jokes about how opening for himself was going to be a big career break. The acoustic set had "Stony Ground," "Valerie" (which totally RAWKED), "1952 Vincent Black Lightning..." about 30-40 minutes.
