Does any one remember when this came out? This is one of the first jazz albums I bought

I would walk from sub-way station to sub-way station to save money so I could check prices, from copley square to harvard square. I nickel and dimed this album as a kid.

I remember hearing this record in 77 or so and it wasn't new but it wasn't an uncle or dad disc either

I remember 'Watermelon Man', know it was way retro.

that I don't listen to this first Poinciana and Mr. Jamal's latest iteration so many, many years later I never tire of. As a kid I'd listen to this first one just to hear the ambient club sounds and feel like I'm right there.

I'm so glad he didn't disappoint

I think Nat King Cole's version Poinciana is the most haunting song I've ever heard and still don't know what to make of it though I love it. Thinking about it now gives me goose bumps. The original Latin version is haunting but filled with a lot of drama that I can handle.

But Mr. Jamal's version totally spun my head around. His was the first time I'd heard a complete sea change in music. Just genius!

I was confused by the song and the 1970 movie of the same title. Somehow in my young mind, I thought it was the theme for the movie.

Thanks for posting.
