Let's hear it for parents who think a musical instrument is a better investment than video game console! Well, maybe not "let's HEAR it" -- they probably spend a lot on insulation and earplugs, too...

Before you start scoffing, Wyatt has racked up a million YouTube views, a gig on Jimmy Kimmel, AND a junior drum set from Pantera's Vinnie Paul -- not bad for two minutes' work!

(21,925 posts)His house constantly had loud drumming sounds coming from it. Chad had two brothers who also played drums and his dad was a professional drummer. Chad was 10 years old when I first met him and he was an incredible child prodigy, playing with the likes of jazz great Don Ellis, whose big band would experiment with odd time signatures, like 7/8 time. Chad was a force of nature on the drums even as a little kid. As I was a young guitarist interested in jazz, I was asked to join Chad's big band for a summer. All time great drummers like Shelley Manne and Louie Bellson would appear at Chad's performances and do drum duets on stage and were astonished at his ability to trade with them, chop for chop. This was a little kid in 5th grade who could barely see over the top of his drum kit. This was in 1970. Shortly after that, Chad joined the Bill Watrous band as its drummer and after that he became Frank Zappa's drummer for quite a few years. He's considered one of the very best jazz drummers in the world.

I have to hand it to his mom, who was a very kind and sweet person. I don't think many moms could stand LOUD drumming in the house from three brothers and their father beating the crap out of their drum sets all day long.

She's ditched that oversized, tinny Yamaha drum kit! Now she's not working as hard, especially on the bass drum, and the difference is like night and day.
