10/1/2014: AC/DC: Malcolm Young suffering from dementia
AC/DC founding member and guitarist Malcolm Young is suffering from dementia, his family has confirmed. It was announced last week the 61-year-old would not be returning to the rock band after taking a break earlier this year due to an unspecified illness. "Malcolm is suffering from dementia and the family thanks you for respecting their privacy," his family (said in a statement).

The group said that "due to the nature of Malcolm's condition" Young would not feature on the new recordings or participate in the tour... (said in a statement). The band are due to release a new album, Rock or Bust, in December and embark on a world tour next year.

10/17: AC/DC Unveil New Band Photo Without Phil Rudd

The buzz concerning AC/DC just reached a new level...with ailing guitarist Malcolm Young stepping away from the band as his nephew Stevie fills in on guitar. But now there’s a new photo from the band that is conspicuously missing drummer Phil Rudd.

No explanation was given for Rudd’s absence, but it was reported recently that Rudd was called away for the band’s music video shoots due to a family matter. Rudd was replaced in the video by Shogun drummer Rob Richards..

The drummer did release a solo album this year, but seemed excited about the prospects of more AC/DC music, stating back in August that he felt that every member of AC/DC “would have to be dead” before they stopped touring and recording...

11/6: AC/DC drummer charged with attempting to procure murder
Phil Rudd, drummer of AC/DC, has been charged with attempting to arrange a murder...(of) two men between 25 September and 26 September...

The Australian musician has additionally been charged with possessing the drugs methamphetamine and cannabis, as well as...threatening to kill a complainant on 26 September...after his house on the New Zealand island of Tauranga was raided this morning...

He appeared in in Tauranga district court today, and was released on bail until 27 November...A judge ruled that the name of the alleged targets and hitman cannot be released...

It's entirely possible that Malcom's dementia was caused by a stroke as opposed to the early stages of Alzheimer's. But what if these events are connected?

Malcom's departure from the band would give Angus Young sole controlling power -- maybe he used that power to dislodge Rudd. Maybe someone has made one of his four daughters very unhappy. Either one might make me mad enough to hire a hit man -- especially if I was bouncing between meth, pot, and drumming!

4. AC/DC Drummer PHIL RUDD: Procuring Murder Charge Dropped
Thu Nov 6, 2014, 11:16 PM
Nov 2014
Blabbermouth.net: (T)he charge against AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd of attempting to procure murder has been withdrawn. Rudd still faces one charge of threatening to kill as well as possession of methamphetamine and cannabis, which his lawyer...Paul Mabey QC...described as "minor."

...Crown Solicitor Greg Hollister-Jones withdrew the attempting-to-procure-murder charge after a meeting with Mabey and police in Tauranga, New Zealand. Mabey said: "I was advised by the Crown Solicitor Hollister-Jones that he had reviewed the police file and the available evidence to support the charge of attempting to procure murder. He had formed the view that there was insufficient evidence...He has now withdrawn the charge...The Crown Solicitor's opinion was not sought..."

He said his client had "suffered unnecessary and extremely damaging publicity as a result of widespread and sensational reporting...He said Rudd would defend the threatening to kill charge...

You don't file a charge like that just to annoy someone -- the police must have legally botched an undercover sting. The mystery of why he's no longer in the band still remains, however...
