I literally took this music in with my mother's milk - well, we all did.

I remember listening to my Mom sing as she nursed my little brothers and sisters.

My Great Uncle played mandolin banjo and dulcimer.

My grandfather played guitar until the arthritis moved him over to stand up bass.

Various cousins played instruments as well. I was awful on guitar but a passable baritone once puberty kicked in. I was a really good tenor as a boy.

Not one of us was in this league of course - but we sang and played quite a bit when I was a kid

4. I grew up in a musical family, too.

I sucked at guitar and piano but I can sing and have recently taken up drums, percussion and I love it. It's really good for our brains and our hearts, music. ❤

Earl Scruggs and his sons as The Earl Scruggs Revue with Vassar Clements and later, Doc Watson and his sons in a small venue. Great nights both.

11. I envy you. I saw the Earl Scruggs Review at the Hilltop Homecoming

in West Alexander PA back in 78 0r 79?

I'm getting old and I drank a lot so don't quote me please.

But I never got to see Doc Watson

12. One night in Gainesville stands out.

Two hundred seats. Some chump in the back yelling out "Tennessee Stud" after every number. Doc Finally get's fed up and states "Ain't time to ride that hoss yet boy." Never heard another word from the jerk. Doc did indeed play the song later. edit: Mid 70's

13. I just looked it up and here hasn't been a Hilltopper's Homecoming in decades - No trace on the net

Except for some of my classmates Facebook pages...

They still hold a fair and it still includes demo derbies and live bands - But when I checked trip advisor regarding what to do in West Alexander, it basically said to travel to Wheeling or Triadelphia WV.

Funny this is - My town was smaller even than that and I lived a mile out of town...
