Academy acknowledges Donny Hathaway...
George Clinton and Dionne Warwick
The Academy acknowledges funk, soul, and r&s finest.
The Recording Academy has announced the 2019 recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Grammys.
This years honorees include George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Donny Hathaway, and Dionne Warwick, along with Sam & Dave, Black Sabbath, Julio Iglesias, and Billy Eckstein. According to a press release, the awards are presented to performers who have made outstanding contributions of artistic significance to the field of recording.
Of the 2019 Lifetime Achievement roster, Warwick leads the golden gramophone count with five wins and 14 nominations, followed by the late Donny Hathaway, who took home the 1972 Grammy for Where Is The Love, and was nominated for four more before his tragic death at the age of 33 in 1979. The Funkadelic founder, however, has only been nominated twice and has never won a Grammy throughout his half-century career. His most recent nomination was in 2016 for his contribution to Kendrick Lamars To Pimp a Butterfly.
I love me some Donny.
