Related: About this forumI know I've posted before, but every player is killing it!
Sick drums, sick bass, absolutely sick guitar (holy shit), sick keys. And probably my favorite live performance from Rod. Astounding, draw dropping.....did I mention flat out sick?

(6,831 posts)One of the greatest concerts I ever saw was Rod Stewart in the mid 70s. He had everybody in an uproar. We all jumped out of our seats the minute he took the stage -- and that is a perfect description -- he TOOK that stage, grabbed it and never let go. The crowd was as loud as the band, it kept going back and forth between him and the fans. We were all exhausted after the last encore. Christ, it was like great sex.
Thank you, Glamrock for this great post. It brought back great memories.

(11,802 posts)Ida been like 6. Bummer. Because his Jeff Beck/Faces stuff has been hugely influential on me as a singer.
There's something to be said for a frontman. It ain't fucking easy I can tell you. Having the ability to put on a great vocal performance and work the crowd? Extremely difficult. I guess I was blessed. If you don't mind me breaking my arm to pat my own back. But it's something you have to be conscious of. It takes the ability to sing and figure out what you're gonna say during the next guitar change at the same time. Mentally exhausting. But, artistically rewarding.

(6,831 posts)It read: "I may be old, but I got to see all the great bands." I am so grateful to have been there back in the day to see so many legends in their prime. Now we're (them and me) all on the backside of time. But what a ride it's been.
I still get out to gigs now and then, but mostly live stuff from local blues musicians (SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL TALENT !!) in sleepy little dives, because I just cannot live without the blues. The one musician I never got a chance to see live - and I am still kicking myself for this - (was my version of god) Stevie Ray Vaughn. I've got everything he ever did but I would have given my left kidney to see him in person.
Music keeps us connected to life. It is the universal language. Through it, we are timeless.
Keep up the good work on the stage, Glam. Remember that there are people (like you and me) who live for music.

(11,802 posts)They're a Chicago band. Had I not met my wife. Guaranteed I'd be playing with them now. No regrets, mind you. I'll take her over any band. Just saying. Life led me to her before them.

(6,831 posts)I will always be grateful to have been born in Motown's back yard. Loved Smokey, Stevie, Four Tops, et al. David Ruffin's growl STILL makes me weak.
It's not by accident that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland. Like Drew Carey once said, "Cleveland rocks."
I'll keep an eye out for Steepwater to see if they come out here. I'm always up to discover a band I haven't seen before.

(11,802 posts)Jeff is probably one of the top three slide players in Chicago. They started as a strict blues band. Hooker, Wolf, Muddy, etc. And in 20 years have moved to a more rock sound. But Dem roots is deep. I guarantee you won't be dussappointed. Great band.

(11,802 posts)But they are all pretty good. PM me later, I can turn you onto a great live show at the world famous Indianapolis blues club, The Slippery Noodle.

(6,831 posts)Hey, Glam, I just checked out purchasing "Brother to the Snake" CD by Steepwater. Amazon has it for one of two prices: $46.98 and $317.40, neither of which is in my CD budget this week. I hopped on the internet and no one has it for less than about $60+.
What this means is that the CD is currently "out of press" which happens with a lot of lesser known, older (but no less great) bands. It's kind of like being "out of print" in the publishing industry. I'll keep checking back from time to time because every now and then, CDs that get a high number of requests can get picked up and re-released or even re-mastered. Ya never know. Hope springs eternal.
In the meantime, any other of their titles that kick that you'd be comfortable recommending ?
