I see it more and more in the newspaper, and it's rampant online, even at reputable sites.

TCM's offense in this regard: Identifying actress Teri Garr (Close Encounters of the Third Kind) as "Terry Garr."

I'm going to check her actor page there at TCM.

ETA: OMG, it's misspelled on her actor page at TCM.com as well. That's unbelievable.

I was also able to fix François Truffaut's name as well. I do try to catch those, but I was in a hurry posting these.

EATA: I joined TCM.com as a contributor so I could submit a correction to this. Looking at her Wikipedia page, her legal birth name is Terry Garr. But I agree with you: it should be listed as Teri Garr in their database, because that's what people know her as.

There's a problem with copying and pasting diacritical marks from the TCM monthly schedule. I usually have to watch for problems with Spanish and French names.
