1. I've always loved Quo Vadis?

The first of the major studio "Bible epics" of the 1950s it remains one of the best. And "King Solomon's Mines" filled this 9 yr old's eyes with the wonders of the different cultures in deepest Africa.

Have you seen an early film of hers, "The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp"?

She plays three parts in it and it is phenomenal the way she made each of the women a perfect, separate personality.

5. Burl Ives as Big Daddy.

I had forgotten what a powerful performance Burl Ives gave as Big Daddy in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof. Just watched it at 4pm. The final scene with Paul Newman that ends with Big Daddy talking about his own father brought me to tears.

I thought this was his Oscar winning role but he got it for The Big Country, made that same year (1958). Maybe the voters were giving it to him for both.
