It’s acrylic on canvas. I worked from a photograph. I’ve never done an animal portrait before.

But once I started painting animals I couldn’t stop. And by the time I’m done I love the furry friend so much it’s hard to give the paintings to their human 🙂

Here is a link. It’s a fun site that for a monthly fee you can set up your own gallery easily. I give all mine away! Except that I did sell one! I also use this site for inspiration.

the dog suddenly passed away. I gave them the painting, and they were so happy to have it! That made me happy, too, because I was afraid the painting wasn't good enough, but they loved it. I think people especially appreciate the care you put into the painting.

I can only imagine how thrilled they were to have their memory of their beloved pet preserved in your painting. You’re right about being able to feel the love and care that goes into an artwork. That was such a nice thing to do!

No kidding they are tricky. I wanted to do something more abstract with the colors as well. I almost chucked the whole thing a few days ago.

located in Denver that does an absolutely stunning job of painting your pet from the pictures you send her.
We had one done by her, of our Big Boy Standard, and it was more lifelike and more realistic than him in real life.....
She is well worth the money she charges. She has like a six month waiting list, her abilities are so much in demand.

There are a lot of great animal artists out there!

What a beautiful portrait! She's a beautiful dog, with a touch of sadness about her eyes. Maybe because she hates to disappoint, and does sometimes.

My rescue dogs have that look occasionally still, as one did this afternoon after rolling in one of her favorite sources of scent, animal poop. My husband was not happy with her. That was her look too, even after he'd gotten her cleaned up.

Your portrait of Sophie is gorgeous!

Don’t so many dogs have soulful eyes? We humans don’t deserve them. I think Labs in particular have that look about them. Give your dogs an extra few pets for me!

and deep shadows. It’s quite painterly with your bold brush strokes and colors on the shadow side of the portrait. The darkness emphasizes the white fur so the viewer knows they are looking at the portrait of a solid white dog. I appreciate that immensely!

You did a great job of capturing the dog’s expression with the way you depict the eyes and the layed back ears as if he realizes he’s been caught doing something he shouldn’t. I can remember the dogs in my life who had that look and I get a rush of love for them. Your work is excellent that way. It’s surely a painting for anyone who has ever had dogs in their daily lives. Your portrait leaves me feeling the warm love of great memories! Thank you so much!

I did this portrait from a photograph I took myself. I wanted to do her in colors other than her real fur (she is a yellow Lab so her fur is kind of a pale beige). I’ve never done a piece like this before and was afraid it might come out looking cartoonish which was exactly what I didn’t want.
I think dog owners know that each pet has a unique expression even those of the same breed, and I think I successfully captured her unique expression. I feel a rush of love for all pets. They mean so much to us humans. Thank you for your good comments!
