My love died in an accident but I always hear this one as if he's in bed next to me and like there's a day ahead of us. He loved The Band. We were addicts. And this cut always sounds like the sun coming up to me.

"It Makes No Difference" is, for me, the ultimate heartbreak song.

The Band also did wonderful covers of "Share Your Love with Me" and "The Great Pretender," but I can't find a decent video of the latter on YouTube.

Thought I was going to be tearing up here all by myself for days.

This is Van Morrison at the Last Waltz with Levon on drums.

They were great and so was their set with Bob Dylan.

As was Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Dr John, The Staples, Emmylou Harris.

And Muddy Waters totally killed with Mannish Boy. "Wasn't that a man!"

My personal fav after watching Van Morrison who had not been on stage for a while, is watching Joni Mitchell object to Neil Young trying to feel her up on stage.

Good times.

It's a Richard song, but Levon's response and harmony vocals bring the gooseflesh.

Only Deep Purple's Jon Lord did it better.

From the "Live at the NEC 2002" DVD. This segment starts off with Don Airey playing a keyboard solo, followed by a little surprise at the 4:40 mark. I have mixed feelings about the Steve Morse-era Deep Purple...I hung in there, but when Jon Lord left the band, it was pretty much over for me. This is probably my favorite single performance from the Morse era, and I've always felt Lord's entrance is very similar to the end of "Genetic Method" / the beginning riff of "Chest Fever."

...anyone remotely familiar with Eric Clapton's career knows that he left Cream over a Rolling Stone concert review that basically called him and the rest of the band wankers, and while looking for a new direction was overwhelmed by The Band's "Music From Big Pink." He journeyed to Woodtsock to visit the band, with the intention of asking of he could join, but later said he lacked the courage to make the request.

On the event of Richard Manuel's passing, he wrote "Holy Mother." I have always considered it a glimpse into what Clapton thought he could bring to The Band, and an "unofficial" Band song.
