I prefer cities that are 1/2 porn shops and 1/2 bombed-out lots. They have character.

Philly is similar. but the theme park is smaller.

I lived in Hartford, CT during most of the 70s and often took the train to NYC for long weekends.
I had a book, "NYC On $45 A Day", as my guide.

I stayed at the Abbey Victoria Hotel (7th Avenue at 51st Street) for $17 a night,
ate at Nathan's and Horn & Hardart's,
and saw all the sights I could (including the U.N. and Radio City Music Hall),
Bette Midler's "Clams on the Half Shell Review" ($17 first balcony).

Lots of good times.
