Short story; the Kardashian sisters are now promoting a line of furniture for Sears in the nude. No, that's not nude furniture like you'd pick up at one of those strip mall furniture stores and take home to finish yourself. And no, I'm not going to post a picture of the Kardashian sisters posing nude because quite frankly we've probably all seen them nude more times than their plastic surgeons. If you really must have a peek go here (but don't blame me if you feel cheap and tawdry after the fact - I warned ya): http://omg.yahoo.com/blogs/now/kardashian-sisters-strip-down-again-181726019.html
The point of my rant is this: What the hell is wrong with Sears? They are in the throws of retail death because they've not done squat since 1982 to upgrade their stores or become relevant and they decide that hiring the Kardashians is going to class the joint up? Granted, they could've done worse; they could've hired Snookie, but then there's just only so much space in the bathroom so the line would've been pretty short.
Look, the Kardasians a great hucksters for their target market and they should stick to selling cheap perfume, crappy make-up, and butt ugly clothes and accessories to young girls. Sears on the other hand is NEVER going to attract the kind of demographic that these women appeal to. Sears would have been better advised to spend their money to upgrade their stores and market to people who would actually step foot in one.
Anyway, I wish them all good luck with their marketing, it just won't be bringing me into the store. Rant off.

(19,374 posts)I have fond memories of making the annual pilgrimage to Sears in August to get school clothes. In the sixties they were the only department store close. Of course there was Capwells, but that's where the rich people shopped. I never even went inside of it until I was back from the service.
The cool thing with Sears though was that they had everything. My mom always let me get my clothes first so that I could shoot over to the sporting goods section while she and my sister shopped for hours for her clothes.

(16,334 posts)don't know how any of those big stores can last. Sears used to be known for quality tools and appliances with some no nonsense clothing lines. Have you seen a store lately? It's everything you mentioned times 100. I tried to go there for the Lands End store but it's been whittled down to next to nothing and I'm not seeing the quality or style LE used to have anyway.
I think the appliance department took a hit when the stores like Lowes offered next day delivery and upped their variety.
Sears just isn't gonna make it.
