My cat is acting so nonchalant. Sitting and ignoring me, refusing look into my eyes, ignoring

my petting. But I know she loves me because she is literally 5 inches away from me. What is with aloofness in cats? What would be the evolutionary advantage in ignoring the people who feed you?

That is whey she turns here back on you....besides it makes no sense when siting around to be looking at each other...you could miss something important...if you watch herds or other animals relaxing they are all looking in other directions so that one of them can spot danger should it happen by.

while they are inside. While dogs work when they are outside only. Makes perfect sense.

and trusts you. My kitteh will sit on the couch with me, butt on the cushion and the rest of him curled up against me, purring away, for extended periods but he's often looking somewhere else.
