Appearing on Megyn Kelly Today, Jane Fonda and Robert Redford were talking about their new and highly acclaimed film "Our Souls At Night" that will start streaming on Netflix tomorrow.
In the middle of the interview, Megyn Kelly awkwardly asks Jane Fonda if she admits to having plastic surgery, because "you know, you look great." Fonda stares at Kelly with volcanic vaporizing dart eyes and says "do we really want to talk about this?" She looks at Redford like "can you believe this shit?" and then continues talking about the movie. It was a moment for the ages.

(56,177 posts)Jane was very upfront about plastic surgery when she had it done. No reason to talk about it now.

(26,298 posts)She does look great - like a younger version of herself, and not like someone who has been tugged, pulled and stitched into a high eyed feline woman. And I know this because when I see her I think 'Damn, she looks amazing.' instead of 'Damn, she's had a lot of work done.'
So many celebrities look strange and deformed from years of plastic surgery. Jane Fonda looks incredible and she still looks like Jane Fonda.

(13,926 posts)Three boob jobs b/c the others weren't big enough.. Numerous face, eye and chin lifts.. Botox all the time, dental veneers also. She is starting to look like a caricature of her self... Looking at before and after shots 20 years different it kinda sorta looks like her, but not... weird.. I told her to stop just before she starts looking like Joan Rivers... Body dysmorhpic syndrome?

(47,625 posts)I knew a young guy who became addicted to tanning beds. He started to look really freakish, but he just couldn't see it. Added to that, he was anorexic as well, but was in denial about that. The anorexia ended up killing him in the end. He was only 20 years old and looked like an abnormally tan concentration camp survivor.
People like your buddy need psychological counseling and any doctor who allows them to continue on that destructive path, should have their license revoked. The sad thing is no physical change will ever satisfy them, as the problems are within.

(9,896 posts)but the first thing I think when I see her is that she's had a ton of work done. She's 79! She looks nothing like a normally aging 79 year old. All I can think is how well she would have aged naturally had she let herself. I feel sorry for people who feel they need to look 30 when they are 80. I can only imagine how miserable they must be trying to fight off the inevitable.

(26,298 posts)And it's unfortunate that, except for 'character actors' naturally aging female in Hollywood are sometimes hard pressed to find good film work. Two time Oscar winner Bette Davis actually took out an ad, looking for work. I think she got the role in 'Whatever Happened to Baby Jane', as a result.

(47,625 posts)How hard it must have been to be on the top for so long and then wake up one day and find no one wants you anymore. Older men tend to find work more easily in Hollywood. Aging in men is considered character, but in women it is unacceptable for the most part.

(59,506 posts)would there even be a reason to think that the woman you see had work done? I like her answer. Part of what you see is that she has the posture of someone much younger and she looks like exercise and healthy eating have always been part of her life. Just consider how much younger fit and healthy many 70 plus year old men look compared to the overweight, stooped forward Donald Trump - and that has nothing to do with "work done".
In addition to plastic surgery, she obviously colors her hair and is fortunate that she has very nice hair. She obviously from her profession knows how to use makeup that ends up looking natural, while making her look better. Not to mention - most of us looked nothing like she did in her twenties, thirties etc.

(47,544 posts)I honestly do not remember the details but seeing Fonda visiting Hanoi, saying that the POWs should be faced military trials and executed.... I can see why so many will refuse to forgive and forget to these days.
I wonder whether she ever apologized..
Perhaps this is what Kelly should have asked. If she had some sense..

(37,648 posts)When she went there, she took mail to US POWs, whom she met with for several hours. When she returned, she brought over 200 pieces of mail with her from the prisoners, for their relatives or whoever.
The Washington Post point out that Fonda was not interviewed for the Burns doc. But as far as Hanoi went, the WaPo states:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/retropolis/wp/2017/09/18/how-jane-fondas-1972-trip-to-north-vietnam-earned-her-the-nickname-hanoi-jane/?utm_term=.32520ea2c4db
She has apologized multiple times over the years, both in the press and personally to vets. But if you don't have a working knowledge of the "Hanoi Jane" issue, you probably aren't familiar with these facts. Now you know.
Check Snopes and other fact checking sites. Then check past legitimate news accounts, and Fonda statements.
NONE of this, or cosmetic surgery, has ANYTHING to do with an interview about a new movie. Did she ask Redford if he'd had a skin peel, because altho he looks weathered, he looks pretty good for a fair skinned outdoorsman who is over 70? Of course not. It's a rude, irrelevant question.

(27,872 posts)is true or not.
However, I do know that Jane Fonda was directly responsible for a good Democrat losing his Senate seat to a Republican in 1976.
Jane Fonda encouraged her then-husband, Tom Hayden, to challenge popular Senator John Tunney in the 1976 primary.
Tunney, son of boxer Gene Tunney, was riding high in the polls, and was headed for a relatively easy re-election...until Hayden, (with hundreds of thousands of Jane Fonda's dollars in his campaign chest), brutally and personally attacked the character of Sen. Tunney in a blitz of TV ads.
(From the Sacramento Bee, October 31, 2016)
"Jerry Brown, Tom Hayden had a long and uneasy relationship"
"Hayden took his first big political plunge in 1976, challenging Sen. John Tunney's re-election in that year's Democratic primary and indirectly confronting Jerry Brown, who was Tunney's honorary campaign chairman.
Hayden - and Fonda - were unsparing in their personal attacks on Tunney and even though the challenge failed, it so damaged Tunney that he lost to Republican S.I. Hayakawa."
That Senate seat remained in Republican hands for nearly 20 years.
John Tunney was a good man, and a good Democrat....he deserved to be re-elected in 1976.
Jane Fonda's encouragement and financial support of Tom Hayden's primary challenge was completely uncalled for, imo.

Such a ride, irrelevant question. AND she didn't do her homework, because if she had, she'd know that Fonda does NOT talk about cosmetic surgery.

Edgy might work but it's got to have clever timing and wit, not rude, bumbling awkwardness like she's shown on two shows in a row now.
Guess she's learning a talk show takes actual talent not just blonde looks, fawning, middle-aged white, male viewers and a Bill O'Reilly lead-in.

(27,872 posts)Megyn Kelly's question about whether or not Jane Fonda had plastic surgery is beyond stupid!
It sounds like something President Orange Asshole might say ("You look great"
I think Jane Fonda reacted the way any "normal" person would react to such an inane question.
However, I have my reasons for not being an admirer of Ms. Fonda (See reply # 35)
