It never got beyond the prototype phase, because it turns out that people didn't actually want flying cars, but they actually worked pretty well.

They received certification from the FAA and produced 4 FAA certified models, of which one is still flying. What actually killed the flying car back then is automobile standards were changed which prohibited new models from being legally driven on public roads.
