Maybe people who have cats need more naps, so they can get enough sleep, too.

Mine naps, patrols the apartment, looks out the window, naps in a different place, rinse repeat.

A dog will approach you directly if he wants your attention.

My cat does things like knocking the remote off the coffee table, or, once when I had my gym bag standing open on the living room floor, reaching in, rustling the plastic bags that I keep my shampoo in, stopping to look at me, and then rustling the plastic bags some more.

The communal cat in a house I shared with others during graduate school used to come into my room and start knocking things off my desk when it was time to wake up.
