I saw Cabin in the Woods last night (NO SPOILERS)

It's a very good movie. It's about a group of kids who spend a weekend at an isolated cabin in the woods. Only, of course, things aren't as they seem. It's revealed in the first scene of the movie that there are a bunch of scientist types in some kind of lab that are very interested in those kids in the cabin. Bradley Whitford (Josh Lyman from the West Wing) and Richard Jenkins play the two main lab guys who monitor and watch the cabin. You of course don't find out WHY they are there until the very end.

The movie takes all the horror movie cliches and flips them on their head and destroys them. It's got some hysterically funny lines and some VERY bloody scenes. It pays homage to many horror movies while at the same time making fun of them.

The best way to describe Cabin in the Woods is that it is Scream with a better cast, funnier lines, and FAR more blood.

agreed on all counts.

We read somewhere to go see it before the spoilers (inevitably) come out so we went this weekend too.

Considering who made the film, it wasn't that surprising in retrospect. I like or love most of his previous work. I won't let that out here either in case someone wants to be surprised but it's easily googleable if someone doesn't.

But my wife and I enjoyed it very much. And she isn't generally a huge fan of that much blood though she does like True Blood and that's pretty messy. I think the context in which it is presented (with the humor) makes it different than the creepy gore-fests like House of 1000 eyes and most zombie movies or cannibal movies.

Once I read the reviews (all good) and saw that Josh Whedon (Buffy) and Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) were behind it I knew it should be good. My husband wants to see it too; I just need to get a babysitter lined up.

I was a huge Buffy fan and loved Cloverfield. We saw it at the theater with our son when it came out. Can't wait for the sequel.

Granted, the end reveal isn't as "HOLY SHIT!" has the Sixth Sense, but it's still pretty awesome that you should see it unspoiled. The longer you wait, more people will see it and will want to talk about it. Hell, I'm itching to write a nice long post talking about it right now.
