I'd been reading about them and figured I'd give them a shot. Zero calorie noodles seemed like a pretty fine idea at the time. Bought three packages in various shapes. First experiment with them they tasted ok and I didn't find them tough to work with (Hint: READ the directions!) but I gotta say the aftermath was less than happy.
Visualize the lift off of the space shuttle. Think about giant lava flows when Vesuvius erupted. Clothing ruining dire rears...
The first time I mentally blamed a local restaurant. Vowed I'd NEVER eat there again. Took a couple weeks and got my system back to normal. Was cooking dinner and decided to give a try to a new mushroom green bean risotto recipe that used the Shirataki Noodles in the "rice" configuration. Followed directions and it tasted great. Got all excited thinking I'd found the diet jackpot!
The next day the aftermath hit again--with a vengeance.
I've got a third package of those things and I have NO idea what to do with them. Do I serve them in a nice Sackrete sauce? KwickSet Saute?
Any suggestions?

The texture is TERRIBLE...
If you can find the ones that include tofu in the mix, those are a bit better.

(13,421 posts)I did find out, however, that if you saute or boil them for a couple of minutes it helps the texture.
When I made the first try with them I was using a package of the wider/fettuccine type noodles. Hubby made the comment it was like chewing rubber bands. His opinion is that the third package needs to just go away.

(13,421 posts)I keep thinking there has to be something different to try--like maybe I'm doing something wrong. I figured I'd ask here at DU since there's a wide variety of DUers who maybe could offer advice.
It may well turn out that those puppies really DO create issues no matter what you do with them, and if so, yeah, I'm gonna be pitching them in the trash. I refuse to camp out in my bathroom on a regular basis just because I have eaten noodles!

I'm kind of wondering if it's something that the noodles are made out of that is disagreeing with you.

These are a refrigerator item. They do come in a shelf stable package, however, the ones I have are not.
