Might offer $100. Worth more, imo, but been out of the business of shopping for such for a long time.

$200.00 would be a bargain for the entire set (at least in this neck of the woods). Were you planning on refinishing it?

This set is marked $150. I have to get someone to help me move it to my house - I drive a small car - and then refinish the set. I've never done anything like that before. No idea where to start.

plus mileage.

If you love this set, don't wait.

And I seriously would not think of refinishing this set without some advice from an expert in mid-century modern furniture.

Quite a good price when you consider that you're getting four (five?) pieces of furniture. They look like good storage space. As for refinishing it, unless there's serious damage to it, I wouldn't, but then I'm more interested in original finishes. From the picture, it looks as though the colors of the wood are part of the design. Nicks and scratches can be hidden with a good wood product. I use (not a commercial here, just letting you know what I use) Restor-a-Finish which does not dissolve the existing finish, followed by Feed-N-Wax Wood Preserver. I agree with another poster -- Lane is a good name in furniture and has been for quite a while. Although retro isn't my style, in the right setting, this set could be stunning! Send us a picture when you get it home and all set up. Good luck.

I've got a couple of pieces that have been "gently used" that I didn't want to ruin with a refinish. Thanks!

I would seek advice before thinking of refinishing. You could destroy any value.

I would grab that group before a dealer snaps it up. In my town, it could easily bring a thousand dollars.

I bought myself a beautiful bedroom set at an estate sale
a month ago. I have not regretted it, and I paid $300 for it.

Solid maple

I got two dressers, a mirror and a night table.

The wood is so beautiful...it glows.

Here's your armoire:

This looks like yours, too. Calling it "brutalist" style here:

Cleaned up and polished with some minor restoration work it's worth twice that. Do not refinish it unless you want to ruin the value or you can match the original finish exactly. Don't refinish the faces. You can probably find varnish markers the right shade to do the spot-work on the rest of the cabinet-bodies even.

As someone else said, you can rent a van from UHaul cheap. If you don't want to do the labor of moving it, you can probably find a pair of guys who would do it for $75-$100 out front of your local Home Depot. It's not going to be light.

It was my first real bedroom set that I got when I was 8 years old but hardly looked like a bedroom set fit for a little girl. My parents didn't have alot of money and the neighbors down the street were retiring and moving south. They had a guest bedroom set that they bought brand new and rarely used that included a brand new mattress to boot. My dad asked about the bedroom set, since the couple didn't have room for it in their new house and wanted to sell it - they offered it to my dad for $50 plus help packing up their moving van on moving day.

So he took it. He really wanted it for the mattress, their mattress on their bed was almost 10 years old but they gave him the entire set. Since I was growing out of my kiddie bed they figured they would just give me the bedroom set but I would take the mattress from my parents bed.

almost 40 years later I still have that bedroom set. Sure it has some wear and tear from being used all these years but it has held up well. When I die I'm sure someone else will take that bedroom set and continue to use it because it's still held up pretty well. Probably just needs refinishing though.

Thing is this, you buy a mass produced bedroom set it'll give you 10 years and then start falling to pieces. You buy that Lane bedroom set you can have it a lifetime.

...and the market just gets hotter and hotter for it.

I'm sure that some people chopped up grandma's old mission oak furniture before it became sought after and the prices went sky high.

You may not want to live with this style, but I hope you can see that there's an ebb and flow to the value of nearly every kind of old furniture. And this is a good manufacturer.

In the 1970's. Whether that's good or bad is up to the beholder. I've lived through the original, so I'm not hot about seeing it come back again.

I went back to check it out again, and the top of the dresser was worn pretty well, and one of the night stands had some significant damage. So I thought about it some more and decided I just couldn't justify spending the money at this time.

I would have loved to have had it tho, refurbished it enough to look good.

Oh well, next time.
