CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Cleveland Indians, who have been allergic to trailing during The Streak, fell behind the Detroit Tigers by one run in the top of the first inning Wednesday afternoon at Progressive Field.

Naturally, the Indians responded with three runs in their half. Ordered was restored, and they were on their way to history -- although they did need to wipe away one or two beads of sweat.

Jay Bruce hit a three-run homer in the first to ignite a 5-3 victory as the Indians set the American League record for longest winning streak at 21. They broke a tie with the 2002 Oakland Athletics.
