Note: What struck me about these photos are the people in them (for the most part) are interacting with other people - No batteries required. As for me, during the non- school days it was out of the house at sunrise, return early nightfall and sleep like a baby worn down from playing with my friends.

(16,296 posts)Get a stick, wad up some well-chewed bubble gum, find an open grate and fish up lost treasure - keys, coins, bits and pieces of this and that. More to be gotten in big city grates as shown.

Boy, am I old.

(60,010 posts)One of the reasons my parents shooed us outside was because we lived in a very small houses back then.
Rainy days, us kids usually played games in one of our small bedrooms, and watched tv in the evening.
3 kids and 2 adults in a small house during weeks of rain must have driven my Mom mad, I now realize.
I can just imagine how crowded it was in those tenement apts, behind the circle of kids.
