Man in nursing home reacts to his favorite music

for those who haven't seen it yet:

We are still finding out how the brain works and the partitions and mechanisms of the mind work. Hopefully they can use this type of activation of the mind to improve quality of life in our later years. I saw effect similar to this in a relative with terminal brain cancer.

when I was a teacher at a massage school I was in charge of taking the students to a local nursing home to do some massages on the elderly, chair massages on their necks, backs and legs or feet. It was quite popular with the students and the nursing home residents seemed to enjoy it as well.

One day one of the students started playing the piano when she was done with her massages and the residents all became quite animated, some were singing along and some were just swaying and humming. One lady who was wheelchair bound and always came out for massage day but rarely spoke, during a lull in the music suddenly started singing "Puttin on the Ritz". She sang every word and kept a remarkable tune and she was moving her arms like she was dancing. When she was finished all the students and staff and some residents were clapping and laughing and it was all very festive.

Another female resident turned to me and said "Hmmpppff, she sure is a show-off"!

They seem to drug the residents as SOP and then they have TVs blarring. At an assisted living facility the staff had a huge library of different TV manuals which told them how to reprogram the TVs if a resident hit the wrong button on their remote and there are 100 buttons on those things so....
