When I was 10, I sent a bunch of letters seeking information. Didn't pay attention to the correct corner. The ones with the stamp in the wrong corner were left in the mailbox.

Most mail is processed by automation. Most mailmen know that and will leave it. If it gets in the system it still might make it but will be delayed because it would be sorted by hand. Could be a long time in delivery. It can also end up RTS.

and I can tell you that they will make every reasonable effort to deliver mail that has proper postage paid. It's been said that you can mail a banana with a stamp on it and they'll process and deliver it.
