Is anyone else annoyed by

those bucolic scenes Windows 10 puts on your login screen? I'm stuck in this dank ugly office and the first thing I see is a beautiful place I will never see?

Do I sound grumpy this AM?

Not bitter. My life is wonderful. I just have to watch my money.

I don't think "nekkid ladies" will pass muster there, unless it's one of a few particular types of establishments...

8. I'm not as bothered by that as I am ads for the Windows app store.

I hate, utterly despise the Windows app store. I don't want cell phone bullshit on my desktop PCs at all. Period. Somehow Candy Crush installed itself on my PCs thanks to this crap and I instantly deleted it, and it reinstalled back! Grr! Fuck the Windows app store.

... and I'm a lot happier.

I worked with 10 for months.

I really wonder why Win 10 takes so damn long to load (on some of the computers). Maybe it's just trying to re-instantiate Candy Crush.

Fuck that app store. I have every program I need and they are better than anything in the app store.

Microsoft has no regard for its customers. I, now, have no regard for them.

But both of my PCs run modern processors - one runs an Intel i7-6700K and the other I just upgraded to an AMD R7-1700, and finding drivers for older operating systems from my motherboard manufacturers is proving to be a pain.

13. I can do these things because I maintain multiple harddrives for each system.

Before upgrading to 10, I cloned the drives and kept the Win 8 configurations. So, I have Win 8 and 10 drives for every computer.

If you are going to experiment with different operating systems, clone the drives first!

It may be the case that a lot of the mobo drivers won't be needed up front. You might just need the one for the network, and the rest will load on their own once you are connected to the net.

I'll be upgrading to a new mobo soon. I think I want one of those up-and-coming AMD Threadrippers. I hope I can run with just 8, but I don't know.

So I settled with Ryzen - great CPU so far. I definitely plan to do some OC'ing on it this weekend.

After years of negligible improvements, the next Intel chips are supposed to be a substantial step up, too.

I edit video. I have an Ivory Bridge. It chokes on the 4K stuff.

Peace to you.

The R7 is great in that regard. AMD definitely scored a winner with the R5s and R7s. I'm also really interested to see what the Ryzen APUs and R3s can do. And Intel shot themselves in the foot with the i9 and i7-7800Xs. What a mess.

I currently have the 'show desktop icons' option unchecked. Black is beautiful.

you will find all kinds of interesting patterns. Choose a color you like and image search it, like "blue." Tile your image if it's small.
