(9,895 posts)Fun movie, well done and enjoyable...don't know if you are a big Marvel fan or just Spiderman...either way, movie is a great summer flick, a bit long at 2:24 or so, but it did not seem to drag at all. Don't go in expecting high art and you won't be disappointed...it hits all the right notes and sets up Tom Holland as Spiderman and a part of the future Avengers movies well...

(47,552 posts)I've been reading Spider-Man since the '60s.
What I mean is, I don't need yet another introduction to the character.

(9,895 posts)Its mentioned that he got bit but its not really a plot point...
Much more of a high school perspective on the character...I had fun seeing it.

(58,835 posts)It was a very self-contained story.

(16,859 posts)We loved it and my son, a typical hyperbolic seven year old said "That's my new favorite movie!!"
The movie is a fun romp and definitely stays true to what makes Spider-Man one of the most famous marvel characters. You never lose touch with the fact that Spidey is a teenager. I felt like this version of Spidey felt more true to the comics.
If you're a fan of the comics, there are some pretty obvious, as well as pretty subtle, Easter eggs and homages. That being said, it is also easily accessible for the casual fan as well.
If you start a spoilers thread after you've seen it, I'll share more in depth thoughts

(58,835 posts)My 11-year old knoes much of the cast from Nick and Disney.

(56,828 posts)However, I grew up with Spider-Man comic books in the 70s and 80s, so Aunt May was always this frail, kindly, elderly woman to me:
A little different than Marisa Tomei. It was kind of jarring to me, even though it's been widely advertised.

(146,308 posts)I didn't read the comics, so it wasn't at all jarring. Marisa Tomei did a surprisingly good job and it was a good part that helped the film succeed in transitional scenes.
Fun film!

(56,828 posts)when my mom and dad got married in the mid 60s, my 3 living grandparents at the time all had white hair and were in their 50s, and my grandfather was mostly bald with white/grey hair on the sides. When my parents reached their mid 50s, my dad still had a full head of hair that was still mostly dark with very few whites hairs mixed in. My mom's hair was mostly still black, but she had more greys than my dad (which she colored). I know others that were like this as well. Not sure if it was better nutrition that my parent's had growing up in the 40s and 50s, or maybe my grandparents having the stress of surviving through the Great Depression and World War 2 or maybe a combination of both?
so, an Aunt in her 50s at the time of Spidey's origin in the early 60s like Aunt May could very well have had white hair, while an Aunt in her 50s now is more likely to have a full head of dark hair?

(146,308 posts)The kid is good, and plays both aspects of the character very well. The supporting cast at the high school is also well chosen, and the clever script, cinematography and timing of everything enhances just about every scene. Watch the supporting cast carefully for clues to the next film in the series. That's as close as I'll come to a spoiler. There's a surprise, but I actually guessed it early.
Finally, I don't normally do 3-D movies, but my wife picked a showing that was 3-D. This movie is better that way, I'm certain, so grab your glasses and see the 3-D showing.
Most of the movie is sort of low-key, but the action scenes are well-done, for the most part.
Enjoy. I did.

(43,867 posts)If you've loved the other MCU movies, you'll love this one, too. Super hero with a spark of wise-cracking Tony Stark snark. Enjoyable, but to me, the formula is getting old.

(12,654 posts)Sort of a John Hughes makes a superhero movie vibe. The villian has a believeable reason to go bad, and Peter Parker has already come to terms with his new powers, but is still trying to make his way through a rather typical nerd's adolescence and idealism. And it's not about trying to save the world, it's more like trying to find a place in the world.
Very enjoyable.
