"Very best" = you are filthy rich, have money to burn, and want the very best headphones money can buy
IDC if they are open-back, closed, on the ear, etc etc etc
I have Sennheiser M2AEBT headphones, which I love. However......
I've often wondered if I could really appreciate $5000 electrostatic headphones. I've lost a bit of hearing over the years.
Anyone wanna venture an opinion ?
I won't argue with you, at that level it gets pretty subjective (unless you have some kind of lab testing)

(20,518 posts)A cardboard box big enough for my head with 2 holes cut for some speakers robbed from old AM clock radios. Put a small pillow inside for comfort and jammed away.
I do a lot of recording and audio editing, I am not sure why you would need m2aebt's, they go up to 22k. Im in my mid 40's and have decent hearing and can only hear up to 17k. Here is a hearing test for you. Play the test file on the second down on the left. http://www.audiocheck.net/audiotests_frequencycheckhigh.php

(37,457 posts)ya got the money get what ya want. Personally I love these audio technica ATH-R70x's. Considered gold in recording studios, wired and not wireless but I'm an audio purist anyways and I feel wireless is bad as they don't tell you whether it is at 16 bit or 24 bit for the decoding and encoding. I also like records and reel to reels better than cd's so that might give you some insight as to what I think, good or bad.

(7,351 posts)is 5 - 40,000 Hz compared to the M2's 16 - 22,000 Hz. More lows and more highs.
