I'm hanging out with the dogs tonight.

Two are sitting on my feet.

My wife is at work. Hospitals don't close for the holidays.

The Fourth of July always sounds like a war zone here, plenty of explosives big enough to rattle the windows and set off the car alarms.

Border collie and lab at my feet, margarita in hand,Tom Petty on the radio and kids running it wide open in the street. Haven't heard a fire cracker yet.

and I worked most of them as a nurse. Hate it. HATE it.

I guess it's different when you're a grammar school kid. Most people don't have that excuse.

There were no fireworks tents on my side of town this year. The bootleg pipeline of illegal stuff from Mexico is still wide open if the noise level is any indication.

When I retired, I'd spend it with one cat or the other in my lap, demanding a hard hug, and the other one on my feet waiting its turn. The hugs seemed to help. Try one with a dog.

I often took him to work with me, July 4th was an ideal day to get things done there - and the noise from outside didn't penetrate that building. Fortunately, the pup I have now doesn't react, but I now have a very young cat and though he didn't freak out, he wasn't happy.
