I know that this title is apropo for a discussion about the Senate death bill, but I will leave that for somebody else over in GD (though it does have some applicability hear), but I digress
Mel and I both saw the neurosurgeon again today ...
to recap, This same surgeon did a spinal fusion a few of my cervical vertebrae in 2011 .... we have been having a lot of problems lately so we went back to this same Dr. for a consult. Turned out that I needed work on two other vertebrae just above what he had done before. Melodie had spurs and compression on a larger area. Her neck issues were even worse than mine. We had surgery about a month apart and our cervical spines are now on the mend.
Having gotten that out of the way, we both have lumbar issues.
I am going to have to have some serious surgery there as well - covers 2 or 3 bulging disks and major compression, yada, yada, yada. Doc tells me that this surgery will be more difficult for both him and me. He made no bones (pardon the pun) about this one being more painful with longer recovery and that if I wasn't up moving after surgery (despite the pain I would be in) that I could end up with blood clots, pneumonia, etc.
I'll write more later, but it is late and Mel and I have to get up early to go to physical therapy.

(7,638 posts)I am nowhere as bad off as you guys but my back regularly locks up (like a few times a year). When this happens I have to lie on the floor for a day or two before it gets better. In my youth I was a stuntman on horseback and apparently years of riding compressed my lower disks and one of them is pinched between vertebrae. My doctor is telling me I need to have surgery at some point but I am dreading it and trying to put it off as far as I can...

Let us also hope that your doctor is fully on his game on your surgery days.
My sympathy and best wishes.
