(10,274 posts)It was good, I liked that Sisko regularly threw people the hell out of his office. It was only later, on a second watch-through, that i realized that no matter what else was happening, he was basically the head of security at the SpaceMall.
Voyager made the NextGen crew look like they were on a 5-year camping trip for Honors Class boy scouts. I loved Janeway and the development of her crew.
But some of the very best Trek in my opinion, was Enterprise. That crew was so awesomley jacked up its a miracle they didn't get each other all killed. Archer just didn't give a fuck about the rules, because there WERE no Rules to give any Fucks about yet.
Cool model. Get the offspring to watch Enterprise after Voyager.

(22,055 posts)The prequel was the most fascinating concept of the various series, in my opinion. The story of how Star Fleet came to be and how Earthlings became interstellar adventurers and explorers was terrific. While there were many problems with the story telling, especially all of the time travel elements, the rawness of the first endeavor into inter-galactic space appealed to me.
The third season, the Xindi arch, was fantastic, especially since the stakes were so high. But the producers kind of sealed the show's demise with that plot. I mean, once you've saved the world from utter destruction, where do you go from there? The fourth season still seems like an afterthought. The final episode was a terrible way to end Star Trek television. Regardless, Scott Bakula was marvelous as Captain Archer.
However, the theme song sucked. Both versions. The underscoring was uniformly gorgeous and effective but Diane Warren's song is crap.
Interestingly, DS-9 has never appealed to me, unlike the other series. Strange, since I can't really articulate why I don't care for it. Maybe it's the spiritualism of that show...

(182,925 posts)I think that it being in parallel to Next Gen meant they had writers already into the flow. It started out of the gate with some really interesting ideas. Quark cracks me up. I get the Space Mall thing. That really hampered the show compared to other series that were always on the move.
Voyager took several seasons to hit its stride in my opinion but it got to be quite good. They relied on the holodeck a bit much though.

(4,211 posts)"Regular people" you know? Kind of like a Starfleet soap opera, in a really good way. It's our favorite Trek--well, tied with Voyager...

(19,880 posts)...and much better than the original. There was one that came after Deep Space Nine where they had Original characters when they were young...didn't like it, so never got into that series.
BTW, all of the Star Trek movies were excellent - of course my opinion os biased.
Some tidbits....
Voyager - 1st woman Captain with Janeway
DS Nine - 1st black Captain with Sisco
Original - Spock didn't like his human side that made his emotional/illogical.
Next Gen - Data wanted to be able to have feelings...didn't like being purely logical
Anyhoo, I think your daughter will enjoy all of the series.
