Baby owl returned to its nest
http://registerguard.com/rg/news/local/35473909-75/baby-owl-is-returned-to-its-nest.html.csp#JUNCTION CITY — The 2-week-old great horned owl had barely opened his eyes when he took a 40- to 50-foot tumble from a giant maple tree near Junction City last Friday after an intense windstorm.
The tiny bird miraculously escaped the fall uninjured and has been safely placed back in his nest — a huge success in the eyes of Louise Shimmel, executive director of the Cascades Raptor Center in Eugene, who helped return the bird to its home last weekend.
“We’re stoked,” Shimmel said. “Everyone is pretty focused on re-nesting. We love it when they come in because they’re cute and all that, but we try to get them back into the wild, in their natural habitat, as much as possible.”
