The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHave you bought any new music that you liked?
By new I mean roughly that one the music was released in 2017. I am always looking for new music as a big music fan.
Here are some albums I bought lately:
Michelle Branch - Hopeless Romantic (it's been way too long without her music! Here she does not disappoint at all. She works with people like Patrick Carney from the Black Keys and singer/songwriter Amy Kuney. The result is a really cool maturation of her sound. But don't worry, she hasn't lost her knack for great pop hooks. The Corrs' White Light was not released in 2017, but is another outstanding album from an artist that wasn't putting out music for too long!)
New Pornographers - Whiteout Conditions (one of my all time favorite bands made another gem! Makes me bob my head and want to move around as always. There's always something a little different with each NP album, and they again use more synth without Bejar there. Also detect more of a psychedelic flavor.)
Aimee Mann - Mental Illness (it's her most acoustic album, but also one of her most beautiful. The songwriting also talks about dark subjects without being too grim.)
Little Big Town - The Breaker (there aren't a lot of country artists nowadays that I buy every album from, but they are one of them. It's another great listen, and leans even more on 70s rock than before.)

(12,412 posts)I have a radio show on local community station where I preview new music to the station. We get about 20 CD's a week of every musical genre. I have 3 hours to preview as many as I can in some form of entertainment.
New Pornographers came in last week and I agree, they have moved it up a notch.
Aimee Mann, beautiful as expected.
I'll have to look up the Little Big Town, you may like the new Maveriks.
This week I am looking forward to Jeb Loy Nichols, Meltdown, Kentucky Headhunters, and Delphine along with another dozen or so.
Check me out if you care: Monday afternoon 1 to 4 MST: www.kvnf.org

(65,173 posts)Thanks! Always nice to talk to someone in radio.
Haven't heard any good new music since about 1994. ninety percent of what's come out since is either hip-hop (which sucks) or country, which is only doing what rock-n-roll did thirty years before. So none of it is really worth it, IMHO.
(YMMV)

(8,964 posts)A husband and wife musical duo who are banjo virtuosos extraordinaire. They have kept their careers separate over the years, but listening to their recent collaboration I'm wondering why they waited so long.

(2,244 posts)But you beat me to it. Among my favorite tracks are the two which were prereleased, Goose Snow Cone and Patient Zero, but I love two others especially: Poor Judge and Good For Me. Coming in close behind those are You Never Loved Me and Lies of Summer.
Trivia: Goose Snow Cone was inspired by a photo of her cat, Goose, wearing a veterinary cone. Aimee explains in a short video you can find on YouTube.
And thanks for the interesting info! I think Goose Snow Cone is my favorite on the whole album. That chorus is just amazing. So many other great songs, too. Some offer even more on repeated listens.
